Leadership Secrets of the Inexplicably Famous...

Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent. - Ludwig Wittgenstein

Your guess is as good as mine.

The Ancient Art of Backstabbing (as practiced by Stringer Bell)

Those hoping to rise from the ranks to the highest Leadership™ posts are advised to study the methods of The Wire's Stringer Bell. The contemporary ladder-climber must be well-versed in the myriad forms of backstabbing practiced throughout human history and no television character in recent times has demonstrated the above-mentioned quite as ably as Mr. Bell. Whether it's having his partner's nephew killed, sleeping with said nephew's baby's-mama, or cutting under the table deals with third parties behind his partner's back, Stringer Bell has done it and it's all available on DVD for your consideration.

Editors note: Future backstabbers beware, there are some who take a diametrically opposed position on the techniques endorsed above...

The Rumor Mill: Who? Me? An "11 Who Care" nominee?

As some of you have surely noticed, there has been a great deal of chatter in that portion of the blogosphere that hovers over our fair metropolitan area about
Kare 11's "11 Who Care" frontrunners for 2010. You may have even heard the name of a certain favorite blogsman and Anoka-Hennepin Technical College faculty member mentioned as a strong candidate.

Late last night, you may have pondered the significance of Robyne Robinson's 11pm tweet: "Leadership! is to 2010 as the Sensational Joint Chiefs were to 1997??"...Well, I have to say that I'm flattered to be considered such a strong contender, but I must also remind you that the year is young and so much in this contest depends on being nominated early and often. So here's the link to the nomination form: http://www.kare11.com/pdf/Nomination_Form_10--ONLINE.pdf

Leadership Secrets of the Inexplicably Famous...

What you have to do is enter the fiction of America, enter America as fiction. It is, indeed, on this fictive basis that it dominates the world. - Jean Baudrillard

Lesson 1: Embrace the Fictive!

Very few in the wide world of the inexplicably famous have a more deft grasp on the absolute malleability of words, images, and bodies than TV's Steven "Cojo" Cojocaru. Clearly, the hyperreal is Cojo's beach house and once we have understood this his celebrity is no longer a profound mystery. What remains to be explained is why Leaders in the crypto-financial sectors of the economy have not taken this man on as a consultant. Mark my words, true financial innovation will only return when the men and women of high finance have assimilated the wisdom of Cojocaru.

Andre Dawson, Thank You For All You've Done!

2010: The Shape of Leadship to Come...

All of us here at Leadership! wish you a very happy New Year!

As we all know, trust indices are at an all-time low, both at home and abroad. For those of us charged with the task of studying leaders and Leadership, a number of questions present themselves more sharply than ever... What will the current crisis mean for already established leaders like Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal? How will emerging figures in the field of Leadership seize on the uncertainty of the old guard in 2010? And, perhaps most interestingly, how will the field of Leadership as a whole change in the next 12 months?

What follows is a multimedia glimpse into the crystal ball that might offer a few answers to the questions posed above. Behold Leadership in the year 2010!

When one admits that nothing is certain one must, I think, also add that some things are more nearly certain than others. - Bertrand Russell

Inventories can be managed, but people must be led. - H. Ross Perot

Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces. - Sigmund Freud

Bad times have a scientific value. These are occasions a good learner would not miss. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Trust no one unless you have eaten much salt with him. - Cicero
